Gorgeous girls will compete in a Hawaiian Tropic contest for a spot at the national title and up and coming musical talent go head-to-head on a winner-take-all Battle of the Bands competition for a $50,000 music video, to be produced by Mustard Man Productions, Canvas Films and Cineworks. The entire six-week promotion will climax in an incomparable night of Hawaiian Tropic beauty and the best of the beats band blast with a showdown between the beauties, the bands and the announcement of the winners.
Promotion Dates and Times
The promotion will run for six weeks, beginning on Friday, July 27th, 2001. Both the Battle of the Bands and the Hawaiian Tropic contest competition will take place every Friday thereafter for five weeks. The winners from each Friday's band event will return for a Grand Finale showdown for a best of the best band blast on Friday, August 24th; and on Friday, August 31st the best of the Hawaiian Tropic beauties will compete in their own final contest. Each Friday night competition will run from 9pm to 1am.
Event Description
The Chili Pepper and its sponsors will create an exciting, fun and interactive environment where guests will not only experience great entertainment, but will become part of the show and a chance at appearing on-camera in the production of the music video.
The Music Video
Mustard Man Productions, an award-winning video production company based in South Florida, will produce a music video for the winner of the event, along with its production partners, Canvas Films and Cineworks.
Goal of Music Video Giveway
The goal of the event/competition is three-fold:
- To discover exciting and exceptional musical talent with promising prospects for a professional music career;
- To produce a music video that can be used by the group as a calling card for music producers, record labels, A & R Representatives and others in the music industry to whom the group may distribute the finished work to promote the group;
- To produce a music video that will be submitted to MTV/VH1 and any other electronic musical venue that can serve as an opportunity to promote and launch a career in the music industry with an eye toward commercial / mainstream recognition.
The Competition
Bands from across the State, with an emphasis in South Florida, will be chosen to participate in each of the weekly contests, consisting of 4 acts per week. Music critics and industry experts will be the judges during each week's competition.
The Judges
Ideally, the panel of judges will be active members of the music community. These individuals will be professionals and/or experts in their respective, related fields. They will have a professional interest in the music community at large and possess a keen interest in participating in an event that helps to discover exciting new musical talent and a connection, interest or desire in helping to launch an act's musical career.
For each Friday night event of the competition, the composition of the group of judges might consist of the following: 1 music critic (newspaper), 1 record label rep, 1 celebrity, 1 (musical) talent agent, 1 member of the local entertainment TV media, 1 member of the local radio broadcast industry. Note: Depending upon participation, members could conceivably serve as a judge for succeeding weeksto be determined.
Radio Sponsor
Zeta 94.9/WZTA is an event sponsor, providing radio advertising and an emcee/radio personality to host the event on each of Friday night events; host will be there from 10pm to midnight.
Newspaper Sponsor
New Times, will provide 1/2 page of print advertising each week for six weeks of the event.

- Zeta 94.9/WZTA radio will provide at no cost to the band 20 hours of studio rehearsal time provided by Mercury Studios.
- Universal Music and Ten K Productions will provide 10 free hours of studio recording time.
- The winning group will be perform as the opening act for a national touring headline band performing at The Chili Pepper Labor Day Weekend.
- Mustard Man Productions, an award-winning South Florida-based production company, Canvas Films and Cineworks, will provide in-kind services using its industry resources to produce a music video valued at $50,000 or more.
- The music video will be premiered at a major event promoted and screened at The Chili Pepper.

Adding fuel to the entertainment fire will be a radio host, Zeta's own Toast serving as emcee for each night's event; deep drink discounts, prize contests and gobs of give-aways by sponsors are guaranteed to make for a killer gig.
- Miller Lite will provide 94 cent drafts and Captain Morgan Original Spiced Rum, and Parrot Bay will provide $1.94 cocktails nightly.
- Universal Music
Prizes for giveaways, such as 50-100 compact discs or more each week, will be provided by Universal Music. Each week, Universal Music will also provide a judge for the competition.
- Other sponsors will contribute prizes that will be awarded to Hawaiian Tropic weekly contestants, "Battle of the Bands" weekly winners, and to audience participants. These sponsors and others will also contribute prizes that will be awarded to Hawaiian Tropic weekly contestants, "Battle of the Bands" weekly winners, and to audience participants.
- Gift certificates, concert tickets, movie passes, and other various crowd-giveaways will be awarded in raffles and contests throughout the evening.
- College radio station sponsors will promote the event.
The "Night"How it Runs
- Drink specials will run from 9pm to midnight.
- Radio personality Zeta's own Toast will serve as host from 10pm to midnight. Bands will compete intermittently in thirty-minute sets, four bands per night, between 10pm and midnight.
- Hawaiian Tropic contests will take place in three rounds between band sets from approximately 10:30pm to midnight.
- Between band sets and Hawaiian Tropic contests and between the hours of 10pm and midnight, raffles for various prizes courtesy of sponsors will take place.
- Judging for the "Battle of the Bands" weekly contests will be announced every Friday night at 1am. Then top DJs will spin a party mix of music that will keep the crowd movin' and groovin'.
